Layered forest landscapes
Nyungwe is a quilt of steep, jungle-clad hills, with ridges rolling toward the Burundi border. From the main road, you get big views, then the trails pull you under the canopy, where it’s cooler and damp. Waterfalls, crater-like valleys, and open swamp sections break up the forest. It never feels flat, and that matters on foot. Good shoes save ankles.
